The band responsible for 2/3 of my blog title has become one of the few to shun iTunes completely. Thom Yorke and co. have opted instead to side with 7Digital, a site that – in contrast to iTunes – sells music by the full album and not individual song.
To that, I say “eh.” I actually like the fact that you can purchase by the song on iTunes. It means that when I want to add Wham’s “Careless Whisper” to my guilty pleasures mix, I don’t have to purchase all of Make It Big; And, well, hard as it is to believe, there are some musically-challenged people out there who only want to hear Karma Police instead of all of Ok Computer. (I know, I don’t understand it either). However, by forcing them to go all or nothing, they are alienating potential new fans.
Well, Thom, most of the time I’m all for your sticking it to The Man, but in this case I find your F-you to Apple to be more petulant than noble. Sorry. I still heart your music and can’t wait for the new album (which if it wasn’t evident already, I’ll be buying in-store. Hmph!)
Hearts,
Melanie
