Nothin’ like nostalgia to sell an idea to your target audience!
The buzz around the office and blogosphere is last night’s premiere of the revival of American Gladiators, the late-80s cheese fest sport competition show that paired super fit men and women against juggernauts with names like Nitro and Ice. For the record, I did not catch last night’s episode, but had I known, I might have taken a quick peek. Although from what I’ve heard, the old one is better. I guess some things are just better left untouched.
UPDATE: I forgot to mention you might be better off watching Ninja Warrior. Those guys are fierce.

Not as good as the UK version. The UK Gladiators would kick the US Gladiators’ asses!
Watch Cobra do his roundhouse kick.

I used to have a crush on Jet btw.

I love how the guy has a barely noticeable accent until he says “Birmingham.” Seems to me like you guys just wanted to copy off of us.

“Seems to me like you guys just wanted to copy off of us.”
Call it evens for stealing our language. ;)

I had a crush on Jet as well. There, I’ve said it.
Gladiators always used to be the highlight of my Saturday night when I was a kid. Just the thought of the phrase “Gladiators, rrrreadyyyyyy?” makes me smile. It doesn’t take much, admittedly.

This show is complete BS…. Pro Wrestling is better at looking real than this crap

Well, like I said, I didn’t watch the new one, but I thought the old one looked pretty convincing. I don’t think anyone can fake that hand bicycle thing on The Eliminator.

Here is video proof that the New American Gladiators is RIGGED (NOT Kidding):

I suppose the new one could be rigged, but I don’t think the video proved it. It just looks sensationalised to me.

I am SO excited about this! I’ve been watching the promos on t.v. but missed the premiere as well. Laundry day. I totally remember Ice and Nitro - Nitro was my fav. But my one complaint about American “Gladiator” is that the crowd can’t vote at the end to determine which contestants should be killed on the spot. Where’s the sport in that?

By the way, I love all your profile pics! Are they studio done or are you just a camera rockstar?
January 10, 2008 at 3:11 pm
I suppose you could say they’re studio done if you mean one of my friends set up a studio in his apartment to take them ;-)
Check out his site, btw. He’s incredibly talented!

Not impressed with the regurgitated version of AG. I think it was “special” last time around because there were hardly any nightly game shows on back in the days.

I think it was special because of the huge hair and nerf ball cannons.
