Work is going very well.  I’m managing several projects that I’m really having fun with in sectors that I’ve not had the chance to work in before.  We’re launching a new virtual world, a few viral (I hope) videos and kicking ass with the blog, which is something I’m especially proud of.  Plus, working with eulogy, I’m getting a lot more practical experience in traditional PR.  Things that were hard for me to empathise with at MS&L (working in an all digital office) make a lot more sense to me now.

With a couple months under my belt here, I figure it’s about time I start examining the differences between UK and US online PR.  Things are definitely becoming much more clear to me.

Here are my Top 5 observations so far:

  1. Even though the UK is supposedly behind the US in terms of online PR, everyone seems to be much more open to ideas.  Clients aren’t really sure what they want and I’ve found it to be much easier to sell in ideas here than back at home.
  2. Twitter is HUGE. So many Tweet-ups, I put my Twitter name on my new Moo cards in lieu of my email. It’s one of the first pieces of information shared at networking events.
  3. Blogger outreach is not just about product reviews, which is very refreshing. In fact, I haven’t had one product review campaign since I started.  Not sure if this trend will continue though.
  4. Non-professional UK bloggers are really not as hip to PR involvement in the blogosphere as US ones are.  This can be a blessing or a curse depending on whom you’re talking to.
  5. It really is a much smaller world.  I can’t get over it.

I’m sure I’ll have more as the months go on, but it’s Friday and my brain officially shut off an hour ago.  Time to go home to leftover pizza, a blanket and a good glass of wine.
